About The Book
Win the Inside Game answers the question I kept getting from readers of my work, “What do I do if I’m stuck underperforming, succumbing to the pressure, and not fulfilling my potential? Not just in sports but in work and life. I feel stuck.”
Win the Inside Game is the answer. It’s how to find courage, come through in the clutch, and strive to our fullest without succumbing to the fear of failure, doubts, insecurities, and overwhelm that so many of us feel.
What I discovered is that our brain is predictive. When everything around it says we don’t measure up, don’t belong, and are constantly judged, our brain acts accordingly. We live in survival mode, and fear takes over. It’s why athletes choke, people shy away instead of standing up, and many of us seek out the comfort of the superficial instead of taking on meaningful pursuits with people we love and support. We’ve got to rewire our brains to make better predictions. So that we have the security to take risks and the freedom to fulfill our potential. We all want to perform our best when it matters most.
Yet, all too often, the pressure gets us and we shy away when we should stand up, or we feel lost and overwhelmed. We know we’re capable of more. That's where Win the Inside Game comes in.
Win the Inside Game teaches us how to break free from our doubts and insecurities, deal with underperformance and choking, and come through in the clutch.
I go broad and deep on this book. We cover everything from the biology of competition and how hormones impact winning and losing, to exploring how motivation style determines whether phenoms make it to the next level or not, to what kids can teach us about persistence, to diving into history and finding the lesson we all missed from the father of capitalism Adam Smith, to understanding the science of how those around us impact not only our ability to perform but also our beliefs and values.
In other words, it’s jam packed. Whether your pursuits are athletic, artistic, academic, business, or anything else, I promise you that there will be lots of fascinating insights that are actionable for your life!
